Para School Day in Tesomajärvi

There is some more information about the Para School Day we had in May 2017 at our school. (but in Finnish)

We applied for the day already during the first project year, but got it during the second year, thanks to the activity in the Erasmus+ project and the Paralympic theme we also had. The picture in the front page is from our school.

Thematic Seminar in Oslo, Norway, May 2016

There was a Nordic Thematic Seminar on Early School Leaving in Oslo in May 2016. Using sport as a way to prevent early school leaving was one of the issues of our project as well, and the coordinator took part in the seminar with some other Finnish representatives. This group photo was taken at Holmenkollen, where the seminar was held.

We arranged these visits in the spring of 2016, but the old blog couldn't handle videos...anyway, it was a great happening with a lot of information about sports at high international level.

1st project meeting in Croatia, November 2015

Our project partners met for the first time in the project meeting in Umag, Croatia. It was really exciting to see the members of each country.

The children had been waiting for us.

                                       

We observed lessons about painting with musical inspiration.

There were a lot of performances at the opening ceremony.

We made traditional fresco of the project logo.

Pula was an interesting city.

4th project meeting in Poland, April 2016

The fouth project meeting took place in Nowa Slupia, Poland in May 2016.

Our topics were our own national sports and Olympic values, the history of sports, Olympic heroes etc. 

The pupils had practiced a lot of nice performances for us ;) here is a story about the history of the Olympics.

Finland is known for Christmas and Santa's little helpers.

The pupils guided us during the Treasure Hunt.

We visited Auschwitz concentration camp.

It was spring in Cracow.

We also had a project meeting with the partners.

5th project meeting in Greece, November 2017

The 5th project meeting took place in sunny Greece in November 2017. All the partner countries were present as always. We were discussing topics like My Dream School Day competition and sport challenges.

 We also had a possibility to visit the physical education department of University of Thessaloniki. We have some introduction to sports like archery there with the partner school's pupils. Here you can see traditional Greek dancing.

We went to see Mount Olympos.

There was a very nice opening ceremony with the children performing, singing and dancing.

We visited the school and the classes.

The weather was still nice and warm in Greece.

More sports during the breaks

During the project time we have been creating a system to activate the pupils during the breaks at school. We have two longer breaks (each lasting about half an hour) during the school day and there are shifts for using the indoor sports multifunctional classroom. For those who are outside the bigger kids loan sports equipment during the breaks (the kids have the responsibility for organizing this). We decided to spend the rest of the project money for the pupils' equipment.

Sports day, August 2018

Before the project ended we had a sports day with all the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders at our school. We spent the whole day practising shot put, long jump, running (also relay) etc. The weather was nice and we ended the day with all the kids running 600 metres. Here you can see the 5th and 6th graders running.

When we were starting the project we planned the Erasmus wall to two of our schools, Ikuri and Tesomajärvi. The pupils were making them and they turned out to be really full of information at the end of the project. Here is the starting point.

Christmas cards to partner countries / 2017

We made some Christmas cards to our partners again... The pupils really liked this activity and were waiting to get some mail before Christmas.

6th project meeting in Finland, May 2018

The final project meeting was held in Finland in May 2018. There were teachers from all participating countries and pupils from Croatia, Greece and Poland doing their learning activities. There were 29 guests altogether! It was a busy week starting on Sunday 20th May with the arrival of the first countries with the children and they were also the last ones to leave on Friday 25th May.

We had a day full of sports at our school. We started at the sports hall, had some time to ride the ponies and continued with Finnish baseball.

My food country

During the second school year nutrition was one of the important topics. We also discussed the food traditions of our own country and the other partner countries' traditions. We also made posters of them to put on the wall.

My dream school day

In the autumn of 2017 we had a huge competition with all partner countries. It was called My dream school day. The pupils of all grades took part in it and the best ones got nice prizes.

 

 The 1st-2nd graders ones only draw, the 3rd-4th graders draw with small text and the 5th and 6th graders wrote and draw about their dream school day. Here is a small selection of the artwork in our school.
